Our big goals and expectations for First Grade are as follows:
We want your children to feel motivated to learn and to be excited about learning.
We hope to foster independence in the classroom and on the playground, but we are always there for support, guidance and hugs.
We work hard all year on fostering self-respect, respect for others and also for the materials in the classroom.
We also work on helping children understand the variety of roles they have in a classroom: what it means to be a leader, what it means to be a follower, to share and to listen to others.
Our expectations are the same, and different, for each child.
We expect everyone to be kind, to take care of one another and the classroom, to pay attention and to listen. But we meet children where they are academically, socially and emotionally. We try not to make predictions about a child's learning path because we have learned that it is impossible to do so. Instead, we continually reevaluate children's skills, progress and needs in order to better work with them.
