Program Info & Policies

There are TWO Adventures Programs, please refer to the information and policies for the appropriate program. See information pertaining to all Adventures campers here.

  • The PRIMARY PROGRAM is for Pre-Kindergarten to 1st Grade students. The Primary Program is designed for children 4 years old by September 1, 2012, who are entering junior kindergarten through grade one in September 2012. Classes are held at Hubbard Woods School, Monday - Friday, 8:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

  • The GENERAL PROGRAM is for 2nd grade to 8th Grade students. The General Program is designed for prospective second through eighth graders and will be held at Carleton Washburne School. Classes are held Monday - Friday, 8:50 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. The program offers a wide variety of courses, see course description web pages. Please note that the grade level refers to the grade students will be entering in September 2012.


ALL PROGRAMS - general info

  • DATES
    Summer Session will be held from Monday, June 18, through Friday, July 20, 2012. There will be no classes on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

  • ENROLLMENT
    Please complete the registration form online, available March 1, 2012.


  • OPTIONAL INSURANCE
    As a service offered to interested parents with children enrolled in the ADVENTURES IN LEARNING program, a school insurance program sponsored by the Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company is available. Cost of the program is $10.00 per child. If you are interested in obtaining insurance coverage for your child, please check the box on the registration form and include the $10.00 charge in your total fees.

  • GUEST POLICY
    No guests will be allowed to attend either the Primary or General program of Adventures

  • TUITION
    Pro-rating tuition for any reason is not possible, due to the fixed costs of the program. Please refer to the tuition rates under the General and Primary Program information.

  • REFUND POLICY
    There is a $75.00 non-refundable deposit. Registration is NOT complete until the deposit is received. TUITION FEES WILL NOT BE REFUNDED AFTER THE START OF THE PROGRAM, June 18, 2012.

  • TRANSPORTATION
    Transportation is not provided during the summer session. Car-pooling is encouraged. Special drop-off instructions will be included in the welcome letter sent in June. Children should lock their bicycles when parking on school grounds.

  • SCHOLARSHIPS
    There are a limited number of scholarships available for Winnetka residents. For further information, please contact the director, Terri Atkinson.

PRIMARY PROGRAM

  • PROGRAM INFORMATION

    The Primary Program provides stimulating activities for children who are four years old by September 1, 2012 and entering Jr. Kindergarten through grade 1. These activities are carefully chosen by the professional staff to encourage growth in all areas of development. Activities are constructed in a child-centered environment and arranged around the needs of the group.

    Certified teachers structure a fun-filled day centered on read alouds, art projects, outdoor activities, math readiness activities and social interactions. The students look forward to the elaborate July 4th parade, water play on the hot summer days, and meeting new friends. A certified teacher and one assistant teach each classroom. Each primary student is assigned to a classroom for the duration of the program.

    The Primary Program will be housed at Hubbard Woods School, 1110 Chatfield Rd., Winnetka. The program is held Monday - Friday, beginning at 8:45 a.m. and ending at 11:45 a.m. Instructions about Hubbard Woods School use, parking, and teacher assignment will be available with Welcome materials sent in June.

  • TUITION

    Tuition for the Primary Program is $545.00 ($595.00 non-residents), which includes a non-refundable $75.00 deposit. Registration is NOT complete until the deposit is received. There will be no tuition refunds made after the summer session begins on Monday, June 18, 2012. Tuition must be paid in full by the first day of Adventures, June 18. Payments should be mailed to Adventures, Carleton Washburne School, 515 Hibbard Road, Winnetka, IL, 60093. Payment on June 18 may be made at the front desk of either Hubbard Woods or Carleton Washburne School. Please make checks payable to the Winnetka Public Schools.


GENERAL PROGRAM

  • PROGRAM INFORMATION

    The General Program is offered to students entering 2nd through 8th grades. View the course listing after February 15, 2012

    Grade level refers to the grade the child will enter in September 2012.

    The General Program is held at Carleton Washburne School, and is divided into four class periods.

    Period 1: 8:50 - 9:30
    Period 2: 9:35 - 10:15
    Period 3: 10:20 - 11:00
    Period 4: 11:05 - 11:45

    Please study the schedule of classes with your child. Choice is important to his/her satisfaction in the learning process. Consultation with teachers or advisors may aid in your decision.

  • TUITION

    Period prices include the non-refundable $75.00 deposit and are pro-rated as follows:

    Resident
    One Period: $300
    Two Periods: $400
    Three or Four Periods (full-time tuition): $545

    Non-Resident
    One Period: $350
    Two Periods: $450
    Three or Four Periods (full-time tuition): $595

  • COURSE SCHEDULES

    Parents and students will be contacted by Adventures ONLY when there is a conflict in a student's daily schedule. Every effort will be made to give students their top four choices based on course availability. During the week of June 6th, students will receive a daily schedule of classes, school map and camp welcome letter.

  • COURSE CHANGES

    All changes in a student's schedule will be made Thursday, June 21 and Friday, June 22, 2012 only. CHANGE OF CLASS forms will be available at the Washburne front desk. We ask your child to try his/her classes before requesting a change. Changes are only made for students who are obviously misplaced by age, gender or class reorganization. We cannot honor requests to be with friends.
