Certification

Certificate registration, applications for state certificates and endorsements are processed through Regional Offices of Education. All teachers are required to maintain active certification related to employment. All associates are required to have a Paraprofessional Certificate on file with the Regional Office of Education. All associates that are interested in substitute teaching must also have a teaching or substitute teaching certificate registered. All outside substitutes must have an active Substitute Teaching Certificate. All Certificates must be registered with the Suburban Cook County Regional Office of Education.

Applications and information related to certification are available through the Illinois State Board of Education - ISBE website (www.isbe.net). Certification management is completed through the Educator Certification System (ECS) which is accessed via the home page of the ISBE website.

Teacher Recertification

All teacher recertification is completed through the Educator Certification System (ECS). The system allows you to view and update your personal information, record of degrees, active teaching status, input of professional development options, determination of Highly Qualified Status, as well as register and renew your certificate.

We are available to assist you with this process and will notify you of certificate renewal dates and any changes to the recertification process. Training on the ECS system will be made available annually, and personal assistance is available as well.

Associate Certification

All associates employed within Winnetka District 36 must have on file with the Suburban Cook County Regional Office a ParaProfessional Certificate. No renewal of this certificate is required.

Substitute Certification

All associates interested in Substitute Teaching need to obtain a 90-day Substitute Teaching Certificate or be licensed as a certified teacher. Copies of certification should be sent to Human Resources. Upon receipt and verification, your name will be added to the District List of In-house Substitutes. Associates who substitute teach do participate in the Teacher's Retirement System.
