Mrs. Nussbaum

I have been the Orchestra Director for grades 5-8 in the Winnetka Public Schools and Suzuki Teacher at Crow Island for over 15 years. In my tenure, the program has seen tremendous growth and success. The 7/8th grade orchestra earned first division ratings in the 8 out of their 10 appearances at the Illinois Grade School Music Association Band and Orchestra Contest. In addition, we have had students place in the higher chairs at the Illinois Music Educators Association band, orchestra and chorus festival and many students have received high marks at the Illinois Grade School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Festival. The Suzuki program has continued to show significant growth in numbers and talent over the last 15 years as well.

I earned a Masters of Music Education and a Masters in cello performance from Northwestern University in 1992. I graduated in 1989 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Music in cello performance.
Currently, outside of school, I enjoy performing on the cello in several ways. I am the assistant principal cellist of the Skokie Valley Symphony orchestra. In addition, I am a member of the Opus IV string quartet. Since 1989, the quartet has actively performed at weddings, receptions and holiday parties all over Northern Illinois and Wisconsin.

I am married to my wonderful husband, Ethan, and we have a son, Jack.

Mrs. Cecil

I have been the Suzuki strings teacher at Greeley and Hubbard Woods elementary schools since 2005. I also co-teach the fifth grade orchestra with Mrs. Nussbaum at Skokie school.

I graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with a B.F.A. in music education. I am Wisconsin and Illinois state certified in music education, in both general and instrumental music (early childhood through 12th grade). I have also completed my Suzuki training for Books 1-4. I am currently a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas, American String Teachers Association, and the National Association for Music Education/MENC.

I began my interest in music at a young age, through playing the piano. I then began viola, which I've played since the age of eleven. Along the way, I started to play violin, cello, and guitar. I am not only interested in music but also in the cultures it involves and other arts it relates to. I currently play in the Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra and also enjoy other activities such as: reading, dancing, and painting.
