Practice Tips

How to Help Your Child Practice

  • Attend lessons regularly and teach your child to watch lessons in progress if he/she must wait his/her turn.
  • When you practice at home, use the same routines and sequence of events you observe at the lesson.
  • Often a child appears forgetful at the lesson. Do not become alarmed or interfere by giving your child hints while he/she is trying to pay attention to the teacher.
  • The child's attention should be centered on the lesson and the teacher.
  • Let your child make mistakes, because the lesson is a learning process. A mistake is not the end of the world.
  • Do not scold your child if he/she makes a mistake, but resolve to practice more and better.
  • Sometimes the teacher will invite the parent to participate. At such times, a complete response is expected, so pay close attention.
  • Younger brothers/sisters are always welcome to attend, to listen and learn, but this should not be at the expense of the child receiving instruction.
  • When watching the lessons of other children, show interest in these students, but avoid making comparisions between your child and others.
